Community-based tourism in Brazil

Community-based tourism is an alternative to reduce the social and economic disparities of rural communities, in addition to being a way to generate other income within their daily economic activities, using the cultural, natural and local resources of the region. This allows the inhabitants of the given region to become tourist guides and provide services to the visitors they receive and at the same time offer the communities the opportunity to exchange goods and services with them. Today, community-based tourism is constantly evolving, not only in Brazil but throughout Latin America, generating a more active participation of tourists within the habits and customs of a particular social group or locality.

For travelers interested in community experiences with cultural exchange, interaction with locals, – experiences that are not achieved through traditional tourism channels -, we constantly create itineraries that leave the classics to enter places that are narrated by their own inhabitants, full of opportunities to discover the real life of the communities and the stories that make them up. Along the way we meet some activists who work on social or environmental issues, and  we have been involved with several of their projects to create alliances that help strengthen each other and we can show to the world what’s being done, offering travelers the opportunity to visit and be transformed by these initiatives. Among the alliances that result from these meetings are some accommodations that coincide with these values and objectives that we pursue, and today we want to tell you about some of them.

Together we can do more

Earlier this year Aniyami became a member of ACTF, because we believe that together we achieve greater things with our efforts to generate positive impact on the destinations visited. The adventure tourism industry relies heavily on the conservation of the world’s natural and cultural resources, so agencies around the world are coming together to protect threatened communities, cultures and wild places. The Adventure Travel Conservation Fund is an international non-profit organization that provides members of the travel and outdoor activities industry with a means to directly support projects that are critical to protect the future of different destinations. Once a year, the ATCF grants grants to organizations seeking conservation funds

The Kayapó Project is a good example in Brazil, as the ATCF and its members have awarded the project $ 20,000 to support the preservation of historic sites and indigenous tourism initiatives in Brazil.

Every day we confirm the need to continue along this path, so we continue to focus on creating experiences for your travelers that are relevant, creative and transformative for them as for the inhabitants who welcome them in each destination.
