Trekking in Brazil

There are landscapes that invite us to enjoy them in very specific ways. We can discover their charms by car, boat, horseback or walking. Walking on the lands of our planet is one of the most intimate and personal ways in which we can blend with each place, breathing its air, smelling its aromas and feeling the textures with our own hands and under our feet. Today we want to share four trekking experiences in Brazil created by Aniyami for those travelers who like to conquer step by step the secrets of each destination, making physical and direct contact with nature:

Discovering the fantasy world of Chapada Diamantina

Near Salvador we find the most important trekking destination in Brazil, the Chapada Diamantina. In this spectacular plateau there is a great number of rivers that for years have been forming beautiful streams, bubbling waterfalls and natural pools of transparent water. We will walk for 4 days in direct dialogue with the landscape of this region considered one of the richest in the planet for its biological diversity. Pack a good pair of shoes because they will be a total of 70km of walking during which we will take baths in crystalline rivers and visit unimaginable waterfalls. Needless to say, staying in native houses will make this a deep dive into the fantastic world of Chapada Diamantina.

Walking through dunes, lagoons and desert trails in the Lençóis Maranhenses

Unlike other tours, in this expedition you walk the park on foot and spend the night in its heart. The landscape of white sand dunes and lagoons of crystal clear water under the light of the sun or the moon is really spectacular. For three days we’ll walk about 20km on mostly flat surfaces on desert sand dunes. On the way we will find many crystalline blue lagoons where we’ll refresh and feel directly in the skin the magic nature of this destination. Besides prioritizing the contact with communities within the national park accommodating in their homes, much of the journey is done walking to support preservation and also feel more deeply the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park.

Walking the Wonders of the Green Coast. Paraty – Juatinga

On the Green Coast we still find small fishing villages where electricity has not yet arrived and artisanal fishing techniques are preserved. Instead of taking a boat tour, we will walk through this area, coming into direct contact with the infinite green-blue beauty of the Juatinga Ecological Reserve. Walking through forests, beaches and waterfalls, we will meet with Caiçara communities, learning about their lifestyle and their customs: and three nights of accommodation in their homes will allow us to understand and also feel their relationship with nature. It is a trekking experience that starts in the beautiful colonial village of Paraty and passes through Ponta Negra and Pouso da Cajaíba, guiding our steps through the wonders of this Green Coast south of Rio de Janeiro.

Step by step through history on the Estrada Real

The history of the Estrada Real began in the middle of the 17th century, when the Portuguese crown decided to formalize the road for gold and diamond traffic from Minas Gerais to the ports of Rio de Janeiro. The trails that were delegated by the royals gained the name of Estrada Real. It’s more than 1,630 kilometers long, passing through Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Today, there are tours that rescue the traditions valuing the identity and beauties of the region. This is a historical trekking route along the Estrada Real that passes through the beautiful colonial city of Ouro Preto and its charming neighboring towns of São Bartolomeu, Glaura and Cachoeira do Campo, walking along trails while enjoying the special cuisine of each place and the most welcoming accommodations in the middle of nature.
