Once famed the world over as a center of diamond excavation and export during the 19th century, today, we say that time in the region surrounding the city of Lençóis is much better spent enjoying the countryside and natural wonders of Chapada Diamantina National Park, rather than the dark caverns of a working diamond mine! This biodiverse expanse of rich wildlife and turquoise lagoons attracts visitors from far and wide just as it did during the height of the diamond trade, though for entirely different reasons, of course.

By taking full advantage of the conservation and education programs which operate throughout the national park, you can thoroughly enjoy the all-too-enticing flooded caves, nature trails and waterfall plunge pools of Chapada, even more so while feeling like you are one of the region’s first pioneers every step along the way. Among Mother Earth’s many highlights on this tour, the creepy crags of Mosquito Waterfall and impossibly clear underground lake of Pozo Azul are both of particularly spectacular note!
