Bike Adventure in Bahia

“Hello, dear adventurers, I’m Juliano, speaking from Bahia, Brazil, to remind you that the bike adventure I designed together with Anyami, here on the Costa del Cacao, will arrive soon: September 10th, 2019

I’ve been cycling all over the world and the funniest thing is that one of my favorite routes is hidden here in my backyard and I want to share this experience with you.

But what makes this trip so special? Many things:

  • First, the possibility of exploring by bicycle different landscapes protected by 4 state conservation units, enjoying deserted beaches surrounded by native Atlantic Forest, waterfalls, lagoons, rivers and impressive organic cocoa farms.
  • The Atlantic Forest is a rather surprising biome, which is home to the second largest forest biodiversity in the world, according to research carried out by the botanical garden of New York. Then, along with this great diversity of trees, we have many animals, especially birds that will accompany us throughout our trip. We will visit some of the most interesting conservation projects born in the region and deepen our understanding of nature.
  • Another highlight is the cocoa farms of the eighteenth century that today produce organic cocoa and fine chocolate seeds. We are going to visit, eat and sleep in these very peculiar farms, and also learn about the agricultural process of cacao and most importantly: produce our own chocolate!
  • We will be in direct contact with the communities that live in this region, learning about their life and their customs, sharing stories and participating in some of their local production processes.

We will ride a bicycle for 7 days (around 140 km) through dirt roads and beaches, but we will also hike,do kayak and boat trips.

It is not an easy challenge, but together and with bicycle assistance services, including a full-wheel support vehicle, we will make it.

More than an adventure trip by bicycle, this is a sensory and cultural immersion in the identity of one of the most beautiful and preserved regions of this blessed land called Bahia!

I hope to see you soon.
