The splendors of the Costa Verde aren’t only reserved to irresistible coastal waters and lazing on the beach; it is also well-worth exploring the land itself, so instead of heading out by boat we’ll make our way through this spellbinding natural sanctuary on foot. Starting out from the gorgeous colonial town of Paraty, we’ll hike to the Juatinga Ecological Reserve, making for the local fishing communities of Ponta Negra and Pouso da Cajaíba.
There are plenty more small villages like these scattered around the Costa Verde, many of which have no electricity and rely solely on traditional fishing techniques to maintain their livelihood. We’ll spend three nights staying in the homes of local ‘caiçaras’, getting to know their way of life and embracing an understanding of their own close relationship with nature. During the day, however, we’ll swap the calm of the village with hikes through Atlantic forest, looking for beautiful waterfalls and hidden beaches. All of this adds up to an unforgettable few days of scenic trekking, through the rewarding natural riches of the Costa Verde.
