Otherworldly landscapes of towering sand dunes encircling motionless crystalline pools abound in Lençóis, a place which appears beyond belief by day or moonlight and a lifetime away from the human history of São Luis. The journey continues through the great River Delta of Parnaíba before reaching Jericoacoara, the coastal paradise previously untouched for centuries though still boasting some of Brazil’s most impressive bays today. The Brazilian Ministry of Health recommends that travelers ensure routine immunizations are up to date, particularly for yellow fever, measles, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, polio, and hepatitis A. The yellow fever vaccine is highly recommended if visiting rural, forested, or Amazonian regions such as Amazonas, Acre, Pará, or the Pantanal.
